Couple Mistakenly Receives 65 Pounds of Pot Through Amazon

A couple in Orlando, Florida, found a package at their door containing something they did not remember ordering…

When opening the Amazon package, the two were shocked to find 65 pounds of marijuana inside instead of the four empty bins they ordered.

"They were extremely heavy, heavier than you would think from ordering four empty bins,” the customer told ABC News. The package weighed over 93 pounds and had been shipped from a facility in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts is one of eight states that has legalized marijuana for recreational use, but Florida is not on that list. The possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis is considered a felony.

Recently, Amazon has received criticism for the excess packaging it's added to deliveries. But Newsweek reports that when the couple smelled the package they easily realised the weight had nothing to do with extra wrapping.

Police have confiscated the drugs and have begun a thorough investigation.

The couple became scared, afraid that the "rightful" owner of the large quantity of pot would try to break into their home to get what was rightfully theirs.

“We were still pretty fearful our home would be broken into, and we didn’t sleep there for a few days,” the Amazon customers said.

For the unnecessary stress, the couple received a $150 Amazon gift card straight from the company.

“Our customer service team worked directly with the customer to address concerns and will work with law enforcement to investigate the case, as needed,” said an Amazon spokesperson.

An ounce of marijuana in Florida can cost around $200. So this hefty batch could have a giant street value of approximately $200,000.

The couple wished to stay anonymous due to safety reasons.
