Blizzard warning for Boston

Approximately 10- 15 inches of snow may be falling throughout the entire day tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service. The snow should start up at around 6 A.M. and will continue at least until 9 P.M. Blizzard warnings are already in effect the coast, Cape and islands. The rest of the Massachusetts is under winter storm warnings.

The National Weather Services stresses “only to travel in emergency situations,” predicting at least 5” in Boston, with the potential for 12”. According to CBS, Boston may be looking at snowfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour at times. In Boston and along the Coastline to the North, wind gusts will range between 35-45 MPH through the day.

“The public is strongly advised not to drive tomorrow and work from home if possible and if that is not an option,” the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said.

According to The Patch, MassDOT Highway Administrator Thomas J. Tinlin is claiming safety to be their greatest priority. “This snow storm is expected to create potentially hazardous conditions for the morning and evening commutes, we encourage all travelers to make safe and smart decisions and avoid heading out onto the roadways if they are able to.”

Several schools, businesses, and establishments are already in the process of announcing closings for tomorrow; some into Friday. Among these are: Simmons College, Crayon College, Child Health Associates, Mystic Valley Meals on Wheels, American Real Estate Academy, Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo.

Boston Sewer Water and Commission is asking all patrons to “clear snow, ice, debris from the tops of catch bins and fire hydrants to prevent local flooding, and to help the Boston Fire Dept. in case of emergency.”

The public alert that was sent out with the blizzard warning states this recommended advice: “A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel…keep an extra flashlight…food… and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”
