DNC CEO resigns after email controversy

The CEO of the Democratic National Committee as well as two other high-level staffers left the organization today in the wake of the committee’s hacked email controversy, according to CNN.

Amy Dacey is the highest-ranking official at the DNC to step down after this controversy, a senior Democratic official said. The DNC also announced the departure of CFO Brad Marshall and and Communications Director Luis Miranda in a press release Tuesday afternoon.

Dacey is well-respected by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC circle, a source familiar with the resignation said. But the committee is looking to “clean house” in the wake of leaked emails that appeared to show the committee favoring Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the primary.

The resignations marks the latest fallout from the email scandal that forced Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to step down on the eve of the Philadelphia convention, according to FOX News.

The release of the emails occurred the night before the Democratic National Convention, leading Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to announce her resignation, according to government officials. Longtime Democratic strategist Donna Brazile took over as interim chair immediately after the party’s national convention ended on Friday.

“Thanks in part to the hard work of Amy, Luis, and Brad, the Democratic Party has adopted the most progressive platform in history, has put itself in financial position to win in November, and has begun the important work of investing in state party partnerships,” Brazile said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for their commitment to this cause, and I wish them continued success in the next chapter of their career.”

The FBI is still investigating and attempting to determine whether emails obtained by Russia were the same ones posted on WikiLeaks. According to the New York Times, although the DNC and Democrats have focused on the implications of suspected Russian meddling in the US election, the emails have cast the organization in a negative light.
